Abstract

Since Mozambique's independence in 1975, the country has faced the challenge of restructuring its social and territorial institutions to reflect aspirations for development and social cohesion. The communal village policy, implemented in 1978, sought to reorganize agriculture and promote a more cohesive and cooperative social structure.

This policy aimed to improve agricultural productivity and strengthen rural social cohesion, but it also faced resistance and various problems (Hanlon, 2004).
